All of you may have come across the brand name Vaseline, which is the most common petroleum jelly available in the market. What you may not realize is that it is still one of the best and cheap moisturizer, after more than one and half century of it’s discovery.
It is a semi solid, translucent preparation, derived from mineral oils. It keeps the skin soft and moist by trapping water molecules on the skin surface. Hence best to apply moist skin, after bathing or with a wet cloth.
It is also one of the safest with least allergic rashes. Best to apply before bed, as the skin is oily, immediately after application. For large areas of the body and the oily areas of the face, now days a lotion form is available.
Do not apply petroleum jelly on the infected wounds.
