Skin Care in Holi

Holi is a festival of joy and colours. We celebrate by gathering together, putting colour powder on our family members, friends and community members, and singing and dancing.

What substances to use.

It is best to use the colour powders only. Apply little and carefully, avoiding eyes, mouth and nose opennings and hair. Make it colourful, without using too much powder and haphazardly. Do not use pastes, liquids, paints etc.

What to do after.

Immediately after, wash thoroughly with a mild soap/body wash. Remove all the colours on your hair, face and body. Apply well a moisturizing lotion such as Vaseline body lotion on all the areas, and a hair oil on the scalp.

What problem it can cause to the skin?

All colours contain one or more type of chemical substances. The most common effect on the skin can be contact dermatitis, a kind of allergy. This presents with red rashes and pruritus on the areas where colour has been applied. For this a dermatological consultation is required.

Play Holi within your family only, taking care all the safety rules.
